LA Show: Kia Borrego FCEV with Fuel-Cell Electric System

Kia Borrego FCEVKia premiered its next-generation fuel-cell electric vehicle (FCEV) system fitted on the new Borrego at the Los Angeles International Auto Show. A number of improvements have allowed the system to develop an additional 47HP compared to the previous FCEV powertrains bumping peak output to 154HP. With a 202-liter hydrogen storage tank located underneath the Borrego and ahead of the rear wheels, Kia's latest research vehicle has a range of about 426 miles. The top speed of the Borrego FCEV is 100 mph (160 km/h) while the vehicle accelerates from zero to 60 mph (96 km/h( in 12.8 sec. Kia also claims a 'best-in-class system efficiency of 62 percent' which translates to 54 mpg U.S.

"Entering this new phase of our program is really exciting," said Dr. Hyun Soon Lee, president of research and development for the Hyundai-Kia Automotive Group. "Now we will be able to build fuel cell electric vehicles in higher volumes and lower cost for fleet testing and the latest Borrego FCEV drives us closer to making fuel cell vehicles available for consumers."

Kia Borrego – Mohave SUV Launched In Korea: New Image Gallery

Kia’s all-new mid-sized SUV, the Mohave or, as it will be called in the States, the Borrego, was launched in the Korean market today. Sales in the USA and other export markets are expected to commence in late spring or early summer. According to Kia officials, the company expects to sell 18,000 units of the 7-seater Mohave in South Korea this year and 30,000 units overseas

Kia spent 230 billion won (US $245 million) over the past 29 months to develop the Borrego, which will make its pubic debut in the States at the 2008 Detroit Show on January 13. The Borrego features a body-on-frame construction and it will be available with a choice of V6 or the company’s first V8 gasoline engines (depending on market). -Check out the new image gallery after the jump

2009 Kia Borrego / Mohave: Full Image Gallery Leaks Into The Net

There’s no need to wait for the 2008 Detroit Show in January to see the “Full Monty” on Kia’s all-new Borrego SUV (click here) as Korean websites have spilled the beans releasing a whole series of images. The Borrego, which will be called Mohave in the South Korean market is Kia’s first attempt mid-size SUV category and it features a body-on-frame construction. With room for up-to-seven occupants, the Borrego will be available with either a V6 engine or the company’s first V8 offering (in some markets).
